Hornby Water Stewardship was created in the early 1990s, and has undertaken many projects over the years. In 2024, we moved from the Heron Rocks Friendship Centre Society umbrella to the Hornby Island Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association as a non-taxpayer-funded committee.
Most of our capacity is through volunteers, but with the introduction of an on-island water testing service, an employee was hired to perform this service.
Looking forward, we plan to continue with ways to
- raise awareness of water issues
- implement ways to help with reducing demand
- increase groundwater supply
- minimize contamination
- support residents needing financial support for better water management practices (e.g., rainwater collection, UV filters)
