Currently there is just one official provincial observation well (at the corner of Central Road and Sandpiper Road). Records have been kept since the 1980s, allowing for a visibility into the trend in the groundwater level.

We are building up a database of a number of other wells being made available from owners, part of what’s called “citizen science.”

In general, you can see that when the rains come in the fall, the groundwater level rises quickly, and then tapers off in the mid-winter, and begins its decline through the spring and summer.

The long-term trend shows that the high level for each year is slowly dropping year-over-year. It’s not too apparent in the chart below, but the high-level statistics shows it more clearly.
